The Langtang
Doku Challenge
The Langtang Doko Challenge was taken on by our founder, Ian Paniwala and recorded by Cameraman Steve.. Covering 29km and 2530m of ascent through the Langtang National Park, Paniwala carried 20 litres of water in a traditional doko basket. An extremely physical test inspired by the daily reality for many people living in rural Nepal.
Walking a mile
In the shoes
For many communities in rural Nepal, carrying heavy loads like this isn’t a challenge, it is part of everyday life. Water is often collected from distant sources and carried back to the village by hand, sometimes multiple times a day. What feels extreme over 29km is, for many, a routine that takes place every single day.
Raising funds
and awareness
The purpose of the Langtang Doko Challenge was to raise funds for clean water projects in rural Nepal and that is exactly what it achieved. At the time of writing we have raised £2124 from this challenge. You can find updates or donate what you can here:

one step
at a time
By building water pipelines directly into villages, we remove the need for these daily journeys, freeing up time and reducing the physical strain on families. What was carried over 29km in this challenge is, for many, a burden carried every day, and it’s exactly what our projects are designed to change.
